Born in Leeds in 1946, I left school, in 1963 after A levels and entered the Civil Service as a direct entrant executive officer, being assigned to the Department of Education and Science in Whitehall. In 1970 as part of the government dispersal programme, I relocated with the Department to Mowden Hall Darlington, moving to Barnard Castle in 1973.
Promoted within Darlington, I ended as Operation Director for the Teachers Pension Agency in the Department in 1994. As part of the government outsourcing programme, I moved to Capita in 1996 as a director and accepted early retirement in 1998 Subsequently, for a short period I was clerk to Stainton parish council.
I joined Rotary in 1992 becoming President of the Barnard Castle club in 1999-2000. In addition, I have undertaken periods of service as Treasurer and Churchwarden with St. Mary’s Anglican church in Newgate.
Margaret and I celebrated our golden wedding in 2019 and have a son and daughter (and spouses) and 4 teenage grandchildren.
