Tricia Child
I retired in 2019, having worked at GSK’s Barnard Castle Site for nearly 30 years. During that time I worked on many novel pharmaceutical products, but one of the most exciting for me was a not-for-profit product which was applied to new born babies umbilical cords, to prevent infection.
My talk is about an expedition of two halves : a Trek organised by GSK and Save the Children up Mount Kenya, in which 40 trekkers raised nearly £500,000 for the Charity, followed by a visit to Bungoma County a region in Northern Kenya to see the umbilical cord treatment in use and learn about the impact on neonatal deaths due to infection.
